Web Coordinating Committee – December 2019 Report

The group met 4-6 times this quarter.

Recent Activities

First Activity
The WCC spent time working on improving the user experience of the Docs site. By December we had produced a set of development pages and passed them to LITA's executive director for review.

Second Activity
We made a breakthrough with the Jobs site. Since no progress towards a payment gateway is possible, the WCC in conjunction with LITA's Executive Director, decided to pursue a more manual method of payment collection instead. Unfortunately some technical challenges remain before the project can go live.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

Third Activity
We continued to maintain and update our WordPress sites.

Fourth Activity
The WCC migrated from KanBanChi to Trello for project management.

What will your group be working on for the next three months?
In addition to continuing to maintain and update our WordPress sites we are planning on developing a form which would allow members to suggest changes or updates to LITA's web presence.

Please provide suggestions for future education topics, initiatives, publications, resources, or other activities that could be developed based on your group’s work.
Once the new Docs site is live we could begin to use it as way to preserve documentation for LITA's various functions and preserve/consolidate our institutional memory.

Web Coordinating Committee – September 2019 Report

The group met 4-6 times this quarter.

Recent Activities

First Activity
Our main task over the summer was onboarding new members. The WCC received several new members in July and so I worked to make sure everyone had received the Drupal training and had access to everything they needed (for example, LITA's Google Drive).
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

Second Activity
We made some progress on the new LITA Jobs site. Once the decision was made to use a web form to collect payment information, the WCC made a number of adjustments to the site so users would know how to submit payment once the site goes live.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

Third Activity
The WCC continued to maintain LITA's WordPress sites and apply updates as needed.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

What will your group be working on for the next three months?
The WCC is going to continue work on the LITA Docs site. We are ultimately hoping to have the project completed some time in the Spring. For now, we have formed a new sub-committee to work on the project and will continue to build on the work we did earlier this year.

Is there anything LITA could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
For the most part, the Web Coordinating Committee had everything we needed.

What will your group be working on for the next three months?
We have just begun to work on the LITA Documentation website. There is a need to address the organization of information on the site as well as the user experience design. We have formed a sub-committee to address the matter. This project will also serve as a way to test out WordPress themes and design elements for potential use on other LITA WordPress sites.

Web Coordinating Committee – December 2018 Report

The group met 4-6 times this quarter.

Recent Activities

First Activity
LITA Jobs Site. In November 2016, the WCC conducted some user testing of the new LITA Jobs site. While most of the development had been completed over the summer, we needed to know how the site functioned when people unfamiliar with it used it. As a result of the effort we found several ways in which the new jobs site can be improved.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

Second Activity
The WCC continued to maintain our WordPress installations. We regularly update the themes and plugins of each install in order to keep our sites secure.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

Third Activity
We have begun an effort to find a theme which will work across most of our WordPress sites. These include the LITA Blog, LITA Docs (which will include the Forms site), and LITA services sites. This is part of our effort to normalize branding across all of our WordPress instances.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Organizational Stability and Sustainability

What will your group be working on for the next three months?
We are going to work to resolve issues with the LITA Jobs website discovered in the recent round of user testing. Additionally, we will be working to normalize branding on all LITA WordPress sites. This includes applying a common WordPress theme, ensuring all such sites have the LITA logo, proper ALA branding, and link back to the main LITA website. In the process we will also continue to address GDPR compliance by ensuring there are links to ALA’s Privacy policy on all LITA WordPress websites.

Is there anything LITA could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
Other than the lingering issue regarding financing and the jobs site, there is nothing else we needed from LITA.

Recent Activities

First Activity
During the period of June through September 2018, the WCC advanced work on the new LITA Jobs website. We ironed out lingering technical issues and further refined the site. We feel the site is nearing completion. While we still need to do more user testing, and are also waiting on a PayPal account to be set up, the basic functionality is in place.
Meets LITA’s strategic goals for Education and Professional Development

Second Activity
In late August 2018, we received word that ALA was transitioning to using Zoom and moving away from Adobe Connect. The WCC was instrumental in helping to capture stored LITA webinar and meeting recordings. Within a day of the call for volunteers going out, WCC members sprang into action. Nearly everyone downloaded at least one video.

What will your group be working on for the next three months?
There are a few things we plan to work on in the next three months. First, we will perform some user testing of the new Jobs site. This will involve creating user profiles and posting job ads in order to ensure all functionality works and there are no technical glitches. Second, we will be working to normalize branding on all LITA WordPress sites. This includes ensuring all such sites have the LITA logo, proper ALA branding, and link back to the main LITA website. In the process we will also address GDPR compliance by ensuring there are links to ALA’s Privacy policy on all LITA WordPress websites.

Is there anything LITA could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
We feel we had adequate resources with which to work.
